Tony Primavera, current principal and incoming superintendent, has announced that the new principal for the 2017-18 school year will be Megan Soundy. The Hayes Center graduate is currently the Assistant Principal and 3rd Grade Teacher at McCook Elementary School. She also was the Special Education Teacher in Hayes Center from 2008-2012. The School Board approved her principal’s contract at Monday’s board meeting.
The former Megan Repass graduated in 2000 where she was a three sport letter-winner (volleyball, basketball, and track). Following high school, Soundy went to the University of Nebraska at Kearney where she received her Undergraduate and Masters Degrees.
Primavera indicated that there were many high-quality candidates. “We had 18 individuals who applied for the position and most were impressive. But Megan’s resume and accomplishments stood out. The search committee and I are extremely excited that she will be our next principal.”
Soundy’s current school, McCook Elementary, was recognized last year as a National Blue Ribbon School. The school’s principal, Tim Garcia, noted that Soundy “played an integral part” of the school’s success. Because of her leadership abilities, he promoted her to assistant principal. Garcia went on to say, “Mrs. Soundy is an educator whose primary objective is student learning and achievement. She has demonstrated a ‘whatever it takes’ dedication from early in her career to prepare her students to be successful, regardless of the challenges she is facing.”
