30 January 2023
Hayes Center School Community,
As you more than know, we have already missed an unusual amount
of school time because of the weather we have had and the condition of
our roads. Moreover, you may be aware, that the State of Nebraska’s
Department of Education mandates the number of hours that our children
must be in school. When we formulate our school calendar, we always add
in extra days in order to accommodate the normal number that we miss
because of such conditions. As we are just in January, I am concerned
that we are running short of the extra days.
One thing we are trying to avoid is having to extend our school year
beyond the original end date – May 17. With that in mind, I have decided
that school will be in session on Friday, February 17. The day was
originally scheduled as a Teacher In-Service day.
I am reluctantly making this change, as I’m sure many of you may
have had other plans for that day. However, I think it is in the best interests
of our students and staff.
Thank you in advance for your understanding.
Sincerely,
Tony Primavera
Superintendent
